BETA DOMINATES IN THE FIRST ROUND OF THE ENDUROGP IN PORTUGAL
Last weekend, on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th June, the first round of the 2021 Enduro World Championship was held at Marco de Canaveses in Portugal, few kilometres from Porto. The Motoclub do Marco has organized a very challenging race with four special tests very technical and fast that have put a strain on all participating riders. The 2021 season started very well for the Beta Factory Enduro Team with Brad Freeman and Steve Holcombe who won in their respective Classes and in the Enduro GP Class. In Day One Brad Freeman started immediately with the gas wide open, dominating the entire race day and setting incredible times in all special tests. At the end of the first day of competition Freeman reached the top of the podium of the Enduro GP Class and E3 Class. Still in Day One Steve Holcombe crashed in the first Cross Test losing several seconds, but the English rider didn’t give up and with his usual determination started his comeback. With five best times in the remaining special tests Holcombe managed to win the E2 Class ranking 2nd in the Enduro GP Class. In the E1 Class, Christophe Charlier, OXMoto Team, achieved an excellent result, finishing his race in 3rd position while Antoine Criq ranked 3rd in the Junior 2 Class. On Day 2 the Beta Factory Team riders battled all day long with two other competitors, all within a few seconds of each other. Unfortunately, Steve crashed in the penultimate special test (Enduro Test) and he close the race day in third position in the Enduro GP Class and second position in E2 Class. After a close fight, Brad Freeman wasn’t able to emerge in the last Enduro Test and at the end he ranked 2nd in the Enduro GP Class and 1st in the E3 Class. A very good result for both Beta riders. Antoine Criq, for OXMoto Team, confirmed his 3rd position also on the second race day. In the E1 Class, Tomàs Font Pau, for ENTrophy Team, ranked 5th on both race days. On Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th June the second round of the Enduro World Championship will take place in Edolo, Italy. BRAD FREEMAN “It was a very good weekend, on Saturday I managed to win the E3 class and the Enduro GP while on Sunday I couldn’t win the Enduro GP just in the final. The feeling with the bike was perfect all weekend and now focus on the Italian GP”. STEVE HOLCOMBE “I’m not totally satisfied with the Portuguese weekend even if the feeling with the bike is very good. On Saturday I recovered after the crash in the first test and I managed to get the 2nd position in the Enduro GP and the 1st position in the E2 class. On Sunday, instead, I started very fast and I threw away the first position right in the final.”
